QED Investors announced the closing of two new funds totaling $1.05 billion, capital that it will be using to back early-stage startups, as well as growth rounds for later-stage companies.

According to CB Insights’ most recent State Of Venture Report (registration required), investment in the first half of 2021 for Latin America was $9.3 billion, a staggering 830% increase versus just 10 years ago.

The logistics funding wave comes alongside an increase in awareness of the workings of supply chains, which has only bolstered the investor community, said Victoria Sun, principal at VC Playground Global.

Endeavor selected 11 entrepreneurs leading six companies at the 18th Virtual International Selection Panel (vISP) held August 23-25, 2021. Endeavor now supports 2,208 entrepreneurs leading 1,375 companies in nearly 40 markets around the world.

Phillips Industries, Grupo Industrial Saltillo, Stanley Black & Decker Inc. and Whirlpool Corp. join a recent wave of companies spending money and creating manufacturing jobs south of the border. The latest round of investments totals more than $200 million and will create 3,100 jobs. Jorge Canavati, principal at J. Canavati & Co., said the recent investments by companies in Mexico are a “good example of regional economic integration.”

In 2020, venture capitalists invested over US$4 billion in Latam-based projects for a record-breaking 488 deals. The winds of change are at our backs and opportunities are there for the taking.

"The US-Mexico corridor is the largest in the world, and there are so many opportunities to grow and improve what has traditionally been a fragmented, largely offline market," said Nigel Morris, managing partner at QED.
